no one is making money off of this! im sorry, i didnt mean to spam anyone. its hard because these dogs have been sitting at the kennel for weeks or months and i just wanted to get the word out to the lesbian community. no on is making money off of this, as it is a non-profit group that spends more on these dogs than it takes in. does anyone have other suggestions on how i can get the word out to predominantly female households?

is it important to the dogs that they be adopted by women? don't they just need good homes?

Believe me, greyhounds don't care. any more than any other dog. She's just using the boards to publicize her nonprofit. And I understand why she'd want to. But as much as I support the greyhound rehoming cause, it's just not in keeping with the CL terms of use to post here. I know it seems trivial, and that most of us probably adore animals. But dogs today = church raffle/high school car wash/political fundraiser/etc. tomorrow.

thats not true about the dogs not caring. i mean, many of the dogs in the kennel dont care, but we have those x that care VERY much. they cower when men are around, and because of this, are passed over time and time again when couples come to the kennel. again, if anyone has suggestions on how i can get the word out about these dogs to the lesbian community, that would be great.

um...the PETS forum, maybe? you're allowed to post animal adoptions (though not sales) on other CL boards. Try some non CL websites geared to women/glbt people/animal lovers. CL has more stringent terms of use than most boards.

dude, dont say shit like that it gets me all, ... well, you know, all riled up. dogs and birds (not so much cats, just cuz they are nutso) have preferences. so much that they either self-mutilate when stressed (like birds) or become agressive or fearful (like dogs). I have know animals of both species who have died because their keepers didn't understand their needs. these dogs will die if they dont find homes. they are conscious, sentient beings. have you no compassion? yeah, sure its spam, and yeah sure i *am* one of those bleeding heart animal lovers. but i am not blind, and i am no fool. and i do happen to be familiar with greyhounds. but having worked in shelters before, i know that if those animals do not find homes or foster homes, they will get the pink juice sooner or later. and if we, as a community, can do something to change their fate? why shouldnt we? somehow, even from your anony post, i can tell you aint an animal person. but what it really comes down to for me, my anon pal, its just like anon posts, if you dont like it, (and like my moms sez) drive on!

Try regular classifieds... In your local gay/les/trans newspaper, or their online equivalent, or even try getting someone there to do write a feature story on it. (With pictures, Greyhounds grin very well.) You could also try the classifieds in your area (eeek, I know, I am evil...) it's techniy miscat there too, but here in PDX people sometimes use the classifieds to post lesbian-preferred housing notes, show notices... OK, they also use it to have infantile battles of (mis-spelled) words, but it is a community bulliten board of sorts. Greyhounds are sweet, sweet dogs. Good luck.

bullshit. If you knew anything about greyhounds you would understand that this is very true about some of the retirees. These dogs are terribly mistreated, generally by men. My dog has issue not with all men, but with beareded men wearing hats. These are intelligent, sensitive animals who remember their abusers.

furthermore the gay community complains all the time (me included) about discrimination and being passed over for things as being incapable, unsuitable or whatever. Here is an organizations specifiy seeking out lesbian households and what happens? If I were in Boston I'd offer a hand even though I'm not really in a position to take another dog. greygirl, maybe try a local GLBT center for suggestions?
