is this annoyingly heterocentric or am I an ass? I have a gyno appointment today and last night I was filling out the forms for it. It asks # of pregnancies, abortions, miscarriages etc and then the next question is birth control method. Isn't that kind of insensitive? I put LESBIAN. Shouldn't it maybe ask whether the patient is heterosexually active and then IF YES, method of birth control?

yes, because lesbians never get pregnant! you're asking for way too much PC coddling. some heterosexual women can't conceive - should they eliminate that question altogether for their sake? grow up!

its a medical question, not a moral one if you want to. P.S. some lesbians have chidren, etc. and some even try to conceive.

i guess it helps them ovulate more regularly my ex-boss had her tubes tied *and* went on the pill. she was doing fertility treatments at stanford. it was pretty funny. or at least we were able to joke around about it.

That's true. Depending on the formulation, it can also do things like get all the right hormones in sync so that you ovulate in the first place, and to make sure that the uterus is ready for the embryo to implant.

yes, I know some lesbians have children But are x% lesbians (as in no shades of bi-ness) on birth control? Why would they be? If they decide they want a baby, they don't go off BC like a straight woman would - they seek out IVF or whatnot. I still find the assumption to be heterocentric and kind of annoying.

there are straight women who take no birth control for health and religious reasons too. Sounds to me like its your issue and discomfort in having to point out to your Dr that you are gay. I do see the point where there should be another option.. line n/a and _______ to add comments as to why its n/a. It can apply to more people than us.

the whole bloody thing is uncomfortable I had no plans to ever go to a gyno but people convinced me that since I am almost x and have never been and blah blah blah. So now here I am within x hours of being on my back in a doctor's office with strangers peering into parts of me I'd rather not have strangers peering into. Meh.

Yeah, it's a really good thing to go I hope for you that it turns outr to be less uncomfortable than you're imagining. My gyno makes it very brief and as dignified as things can be with one party in stirrups. Hmph. It really is very good that you're going.
