I'm horrified. I hope those two little sh-ts are shamed, expelled, and jailed. Two privileged assholes with nothing better to do than ruin someone else's life. I'm really pissed off about this.

I can't begin to imagine what went through their minds to do this. And I really can't imagine the anguish Tyler felt. At the very least, Rutgers sure as hell better expel those two.

My bet is power I don't see a whole lot of homophobia in it per say. I see a cruel prank by a couple of that should have been grown up enough to know better. I would bet they would have done the same if they caught him masturbating, or being intimate with a woman they deemed to be particularly unappealing. Anything embarrassing and my bet is they would have done the same.

I beg to differ Cece If they taped a guy having sex with a woman it would be despicable and we would feel sympathy for the woman. If they filmed him masturbating it would be humiliating but he would survive. Taping a closeted 18 yr old young man with another and putting it on the internet is a hate crime. I have nieces and nephews that age.They are so cool an accepting of being gay.It is like a non issue to them. Outsiders or not I hope they throw the book at them.

Because they have a fun, cool successful, lesbian aunt that is a role model for them. This is why it is important for us to be open about who we are, we shape lives that are around us just by being who we are.

I really do not see it as a hate crime per say And I really doubt the prosecutor can make hate crime enhancement stick. Your arrangement is based on effect, not intent, the end result is the same, but intent is what triggers hate crime enhancement. I have been involved in the review and passage of two hate crime bills so the technicalities are familiar. All that said, I strongly agree with you, I hope they throw the book at them, and even then I do not see much justice being done because the crimes they are likely to get convicted of carry rather light sentences. I do hope the prosecutor at least asks for hate crime enhancement. And as BR says, this is why we need to be out and open about who we are

Please do not judge all younger Generations based on the actions of these two. There are always outliers. But appalling it is.

It sounds like the roommate that filmed it was a real asshole. I personally wouldn't be surprised if he did that to any roommate, gay or straight. A jerk is almost always a jerk.

It would not surprise me if the roommate turned out to be gay himself. Often the closeted ones behave the most cruelly in a misguided attempt to maintain their cover. He may have been afraid of what people would say about him if they knew that he shared a dorm room with a gay student.

If they don't get jail time the family should sue them. The kid's dead as a result of their actions, they should get some form of punishment.
